Fabrizio Giulio Luca Pilo earned his Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Cagliari in 1992, completing his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Pisa in 1998. He established himself as researcher in 1996, going on to become Associate professor in 2001 and full professor of Electrical Systems for Energy in 2014. Professor Pilo is president of CT 316 of the Italian Electrotechnical Committee (CEI), which develops the national technical standards for connection to high, medium, and low voltage distribution networks. He is Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Distinguished member of the Cigre (Board on large electrical systems), President of Annex 3 on Isgan Cost-Benefit Analysis (International Smart Grid Action Network of the International Energy Agency, UN), member of the board of the association Cired (International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution) and the Electricity Association of AEIT. He has carried out consultancy and evaluation assignments for Arera, Mise, Csea and various public administrations. For the University of Cagliari, he has already held the post of Director of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2006-2012, 2015-2021), of Senator (2018-2021), coordinator of the PhD School in Industrial Engineering, vice president of the faculty of Engineering and Architecture. He is also a delegate of the university on the board of the Inter-university Consortium for Energy and Electrical Systems.

The main areas of interest of hisscientific research concern the planning and management of energy systems, the integration of renewable sources, energy efficiency and the digitisation of electrical systems. Author of over 160 scientific works indexed in the main international databases, he chairs international research groups and scientific conferences of reference for the distribution of electricity; he has also participated and coordinated several national and international research projects funded by competitive calls. He coordinated activities and projects funded by key industrial partners.
