Ignazio Efisio Putzu is Professor of Linguistics and Historical Linguistics, and currently director of the Department of Philology, Literature and Linguistics. The main research interests concern historical linguistics, with particular regard to Indo-European linguistics and the languages of the Ancient Near East; typological linguistics (with particular attention to Indo-European linguistics and Mediterranean linguistics); theoretical linguistics (with particular regard to morphology and syntax, semantics and pragmatics); onomastics (with particular regard to the theoretical dimension and the psycholinguistic and socio-ethnological correlates of nickname systems); some aspects of methodology related to research in linguistics are also concerned (in particular, the contributions of social psychology and the sociology of groups and the study of communicative interaction; the problem of the linguistic representation of space).
