Full professor of Sanitary-Environmental Engineering, she was already in charge of internationalisation in the previous six-year period 2015-2021, during which she coordinated the entrance of the University of Cagliari in the consortium of European universities that are part of the EDUC Alliance (European Digital UniverCity). She was President of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Director of the PhD School in Engineering and Science for the Environment and the Territory, President of the Board of Studies in Engineering for the Environment and the Territory. She was part of the Evaluation Expert Group (GEV) of ANVUR for area 08 of the Research Quality Evaluation (VQR) 2004-2010, Expert Evaluator under the VI and VII Framework Programme and of Horizon 2020, as well as Referee for major international journals. For the University of Cagliari, she also coordinated the Enpi CbcMed (Cross-Border Cooperation in the Mediterranean) Research Project "Management of port areas in the Mediterranean Sea Basin - Mapmed" (2011-2015), funded by the European Union.
Her research activities mainly concern the biological treatment of civil and industrial wastewater and the reclamation of contaminated soils and sediments, in which she has coordinated numerous research projects. This scientific activity is widely documented by numerous articles of an experimental nature in the main international journals in the field.
